The Trilby Hat - Multi-size

The Trilby Hat multi-size sewing pattern

A multi-size pattern to sew this smart-looking hat. The pattern has three sizes and two brim styles. A trilby is a hat with a short brim that is angled down at the front and turns up slightly at the back. The Trilby hat made an initial appearance during a stage adaptation of George du Maurier’s novel ‘Trilby’. Trilby was an instant bestseller when first published in 1894. It's the hugely entertaining tale of three bohemian artists in Paris who all fall in love with Trilby - an artists' model and laundress. The lead actress of the play wore the short-brimmed hat and soon after, the style took off.

Traditionally this hat style was made from rabbit felt but it’s made from a variety of materials today including tweed, felt and straw. Today these hats can be sewn with any sturdy woven fabric such as canvas, denim, corduroy, gabardine, etc. The thickness of fabric may affect hat size to a small degree. There are two brim styles, a top-stitched brim and a bias covered brim. You decide.
