Modern Geometric Hexagon Rainbow Colors Quilted Mug Rugs

These quilted hexagons mug rugs are a modern accessory for home or at work and make excellent gifts all year round.  These “hexies” are well suited as pot holders as well as mug rugs using the correct insulating batting. They would look cool in any modern minimalist kitchen or dining room. This is a nice project for quilters who would like some practice foundation piecing. Instructions assume a basic knowledge in foundation piecing. Finished measurements: 8″ x 7″ (20 cm x 17.5 cm)

Sewing Supplies for all Three Mug Rugs:

  1. 1/8 yard yellow

AP16

  1. 1/8 yard green

  2. 1/8 yard blue

  3. 1/8 yard purple

  4. 1/8 yard red

  5. 1/8 yard orange

  6. 1/4 yard grey

  7. 1/2 yard black (includes binding fabric)

  8. 10″ x 9″ backing fabric

  9. 12″ x 11″ batting 

  11. 4-1/2 yards black bias binding (1-1/2 yards for each hexagon)
