Soho Slouch Tote Sewing Tutorial & Pattern

by Weekend Designer

Don Morin of  Weekend designer says that his bag was inspired by an “irresistible slouch bag in butter-soft suede.  A chic Italian bag from Sundance.  It deftly adapts to bulky or bitty loads with ease.  Zen-like styling (no zips, pockets or snaps!) make this easy and versatile carryall for virtually everything.”  I think we should all make *at least* one.  I don’t know about you, but I am inspired!  :D

I’m a little confused about the material amount for the Soho Bag. It states, “1 – 4 oz. [1/16″ thick] Suede split hide, 16 square ft.” I’ll probably be using 54″ wide material or even 36″ or 45″. I’m thinking I would only need about 1.6 yards. What am I missing?

OK, I see where I need 2 of the larger pieces. Still don’t see where I would need 16 square feet. I’m guessing a little over 2 yards.

I’ve made this bag and I don’t recall using Even half a yard at 60″. I did not pay attention to yardage requirements but followed his grid and calculated that way.
